Intro | Best Cabinet Saw
Table saws have been the main centerpiece in workshops for generations. If your grandfather worked with wood he might have owned one, so you’ll know how spectacular they are. If you work with wood in any capacity you’ll probably want to get your hands on one too, but which one shall you choose?
It’s not like back in the old days when there wasn’t much choice. You’ll have multiple options to pick between now. If you want an absolute beast you’ll definitely need the best cabinet saw. We’ll look at why it’s different, but more importantly why it’s the king of table saws.

What Is A Cabinet Saw?
The biggest difference between a cabinet saw and other table saws is the strong enclosed base at the bottom, but in reality the best cabinet saw is worlds apart from anything else on the market in every way possible. Almost every single one of the characteristics a cabinet table saw possesses is better, but there is one notable exception.
Portability is the area where they’ll be blown away, so you might need one of these portable table saws if you’re required to move it around a lot:
- Bench Top Saws
- Compact Table Saws
- Contractor Saws
Bench Top Saws
Bench tops saws are as light as a feather compared to some others. It means the tables are small and they don’t have a very high rip capacity. You would only want one of these if you were looking to do occasional light-duty work, but even then you’d be limited to soft woods like thin boards of plywood.
Example of a bench top saw | Metabo HPT / C10RJS
Compact Table Saws
If you want something a little more powerful compact table saws are next in line. They’re more similar to bench top saws than you might think with only a couple of additional features separating them. Those features like a cast iron table surface won’t be able to hide the fact the size and rip capacity is poor.
Example of a compact table saw | Skil-TS6307-00
Contractor Saws
The reason contractor saws get their name is because they are rugged and can handle worksites easily. They were portable and still had lots of features contractors would need, yet they’ve lost their way over the years. They have become bigger and wiped out a lot of their portability, but they’ll still never compete with the best cabinet saws.

Why The Best Cabinet Saws are Popular?
If the negatives of the table saws we’ve already mentioned are unacceptable to you there is only really one option. It’s easy to tell you the cabinet saw is what you’ll need, but you will want to know why if you’ve never used one before. Let’s discuss their main advantages over anything else:
- An Unbelievable Amount Of Power
- It’s Quieter When You Work
- You Won’t Make A Mess Everywhere
- A Lot Less Burned Cuts Of Wood
- Ending Up With Smother Cuts
- Blades Will Last A Lot Longer
- Motor And Belts Are Protected
- Much Easier Maintenance Access
- A Large Tabletop To Work With
- It Has Positive Blade Settings
- It’s Easier To Use The Controls
- A Great Magnetic Safety Switch
An Unbelievable Amount Of Power
Can you imagine the difference between a commercial chainsaw and an axe? The axe would be fine if you were chopping through a thin tree branch, but with a commercial chainsaw in your hand it would be possible to attack anything. It’s like a bench top saw versus a cabinet saw.
The number one reason for this is thanks to the motor usually being rated at around 2 to 5 HP, which is going to turn a good blade into a deadly tool. Not only can the best cabinet saw cut through any type of wood you’ll face, but the large cutting depth means it won’t need to be on the small side.

It’s Quieter When You Work
When you’re working indoors you want the environment to be as comfortable as possible and noise plays a big factor in this. It’s especially true in smaller workshops where you can’t get away with your power tools being too noisy. We’ve already talked about where the tool gets its name.
The enclosed base will come in handy in many situations, but one of them will be the reduction in noise because a cabinet saw motor will be hidden within the base. It’s still loud enough to cause damage to your ears, but your day will be a lot quieter.
You Won’t Make A Mess Everywhere
Working in a loud workshop is one thing, but cleaning up after yourself is even worse. Do you have any idea how much sawdust is left over after you’ve been cutting wood all day? It’s extremely light too, so the force from spinning blades can blow it all over the room.
In your home you keep things inside cabinets, which is exactly what happens with a cabinet saw. The dust collection ports are large and once it’s fallen into the base it won’t be able to come back out. It makes cleaning up after yourself a hundred times easier.
A Lot Less Burned Cuts Of Wood
If you’re dealing with any metal blade spinning quickly I’m sure you’ll know it’s going to produce heat. This won’t end well when you’re using anything less than the best cabinet saw, because you’ll waste money and end up with so many bits of wood you can’t use.
You’ll have to try pretty hard to burn the wood when using a cabinet saw. It’s still going to happen on an occasional basis, but it’s hard when you’ve got the fences and blade set up correctly. The power it produces won’t be able to slow down the blade to lower the feed rate enough.

Ending Up With Smoother Cuts
Have you ever tried to run your hand over a freshly sawed piece of wood? Even though the wood is cut you’ll still end up with splinters in your finger. This is reduced when you start using power tools, but it’s certainly not almost eliminated like when you use the best cabinet saw.
This could be for various reasons like the blade itself, but we’ll talk about a couple of features unique to cabinet table saws. The first is the fact there is next to zero vibration. The plate mounting is more rigid too, so it’s always going to stay in its correct position.
Blades Will Last A Lot Longer
Once you’ve bought a power tool you expect it to work for a long time. You’ll need to change settings depending on the cuts you’re doing, but you don’t want to change the blades all the time. It’s not because they’re expensive, but instead you’ll waste lots of time.
This is especially true if you don’t even have any spares handy in your workshop. The best cabinet table saw can easily extend the life of your blades due to their power. There will be so much horsepower contained inside the machine it will have a high dull blade tolerance.
Motor And Belts Are Protected
We’ve just covered a piece of equipment capable of lasting longer, but a great cabinet saw will be able to protect things encased inside the base too. After all, that is where it gets the name. It turns out it will be able to extend the life of all the important parts.
The two in particular you’ll be concerned about are the motor and drive belts. The base is so secure nothing is going to get to them while you’re working. There will be no workpieces jamming your belts up like you’ll find happen occasionally with substandard table saws.
Much Easier Maintenance Access
With the exception of a couple of things like the tabletop and trunnion assembly, you’ll find everything inside or on the base of cabinet table saws. This makes it a lot easier to carry out major maintenance, plus micro adjustments are a breeze too.
Fine adjustments can be made on the base because everything is convenient to access and it’s simple to see the scales. Even though a contractor saw is the next best saw you can buy it won’t give you anywhere as much leeway as the best cabinet saw.
A Large Tabletop To Work With
The tabletop doesn’t always need to be large, but it’s nice when it is. It means you’ll always have the ability to handle large pieces of wood even if they’re only required some of the time. More space gives you the extra room you need to work with too.
The weight of the base also plays to your advantage when it comes to the tabletop. Even though it’s not the only accessory available on the best cabinet saws, something like an extension table won’t cause the entire unit to tip over when there is extra weight on one side.
It Has Positive Blade Settings
We did brush over this easier on, but it’s important enough to speak about on its own. Anyone who is working with wood will want to end up with the best results possible, which won’t be able to happen if your power tool doesn’t have positive blade settings.
The height and angle will be locked into position with authority. On cheaper models even a minor change to either one of these could knock the blade out of alignment. Once your cabinet table saw is set into position you can be assured nothing is going anywhere.
It’s Easier To Use The Controls
If you were only playing around with your cabinet saw for a while it probably wouldn’t make much difference, but if you’re working all day it will. It’s a well-known fact the controls are generally a lot easier to handle compared to a contractor saw.
This is great because you’re going to be lifting the blade up and down or tilting it to the side non-stop. If the controls weren’t designed to relieve your hands of some pressure it would fatigue them quickly. Even aligning everything is quicker and easier on the best cabinet saw.
A Great Magnetic Safety Switch
As I’m sure you’ll already know, these power tools are extremely dangerous. One small accident and you could lose a finger. On top of the excellent controls adding a nice safety touch the best cabinet saws should always come with a magnetic safety switch built in.
Be very careful when you’re buying a cabinet table saw because some of them don’t. For some reason your blade could stop due to a power interruption, but the switch will stop it from turning back on automatically. There is actually an additional product for models without the safety switch.
Please Note: We’ve only touched on a couple of features that will keep you safe. Even so, you should never forget all the basic rules still apply. That means it would be silly to use such a powerful machine if you weren’t wearing a pair of safety goggles.
Best Cabinet Saw | Reviews
The best cabinet saws will have all these features we’ve already spoken about, but they’ll all have unique things about them too. It’s difficult to tell which one you should buy if you’ve never actually owned one from a specific manufacturer before.
There is an easy way to figure it out right now. We’ll pick some of the top cabinet table saws on the market and point out some of the things that make them great. It should then make your decision a lot easier when you’re left to choose your new favorite toy:

It Has A T-Style Miter Gauge Slot
When we talked about the last model we didn’t mention the T-style miter slot, but the Jet JPS10-TS has one too. This will allow the user to make perfectly smooth miter cuts, plus it’s very easy to adjust so you’re not slowed down when you’re hard at work.
You’ll See A Sloped Cabinet Floor
You might be wondering what one of the best cabinet saws is doing with a sloped floor, but it’s actually a brilliant way to collect more dust. It will already make its way into a 4 inch extraction port and the slope makes the process as efficient as possible.
Protective Features Are Quick Release
All of the great cabinet table saws need features like transparent guards and riving blades, because they’d be too unsafe to use if they didn’t. The only bad thing is having to connect them all the time, but both features can be attached using a quick release system on this model.
The Control Switch Is Easy To Reach
When you have a big job to do you don’t want to go too fast or it becomes unsafe, but at the same time you want everything to be as streamlined as possible. The control switch on the Jet JPS10-TS is within reaching distance to help you turn the blade off and on within seconds.
The Unit Has A Chip-Resistant Finish
Once you’ve spent a lot of money on a power tool it’s scary. If you own the best cabinet saw you’ll want to look after it like it’s your baby. Thankfully this model has a chip-resistant finish, so you won’t have to be too cautious in case about ruining its looks.
Has An Extremely Long 52″ Fence
It’s hard to know what kind of jobs you’ll end up tackling one day. If you’re working on a large job you’ll want a huge rip capacity. Although the Jet cabinet saw does have a 32 inch model, you’ll be able to pick one up with an impressive 52 inch rip capacity.

You’ll Get A 1.75 Horsepower Motor
Some will say the 1.75 HP motor isn’t powerful enough, but it still spins at 4,000 RPM and will cut all types of wood. It’s actually not too big a price to pay considering it’s nearly half the weight of the last table saw we looked at, which means it’s much more portable.
Maximum Depth Of Cut At 90°/45°
Even though the saw has a 10 inch blade you’ll want to know the maximum depth of cut, because it’s a huge part of the buying process. At 90 degrees the max depth of cut is a respectable 3-1/8 inches. When it drops down to 45 degrees it lowers to only 2-1/8 inches.

Anti-Kickback Pawls For Added Safety
We’ve talked about a few safety features so far and now we’re going to discuss a new one. At some point your workpiece could kick back through no fault of your own. Were that to happen the pawls would dig in to stop it, plus they only allow it to move in one direction.
Making Fine Adjustments To The Fence
It has a camlock T-shaped fence with HDPE face, plus it has the ability to glide effortlessly making your job simple. It can also make it more precise at the same time, because the knurled knobs will allow you to make fine adjustments to get the position just right.
A Deluxe Quick Release Blade Guard
Even though the quick release transparent blade guard is available on lots of the best cabinet saws, they’ll all have their little differences. This one will allow you to lift each side up independently when the blade isn’t spinning should you need quicker access.
It Comes With A Two Horsepower Motor
The Shop Fox W1824 table saw sits in between the last two cabinet saws we’ve looked at in regards to horsepower. It has a 2HP motor that spins the blade at 3,850 RPM. It also has a poly-V serpentine belt drive and pulley system inside the base of the unit.
Low Friction Composite Extension Table
You might have access to a 30 inch rip capacity, but what happens when it’s not enough? It’s the question those with a small workshop ask themselves when deciding what size of cabinet saw to buy. This one comes with an extension table to give you extra workspace.
The Blade Is Able To Tilt To 45°
Like the other models your Shop Fox W1824 will be able to tilt 45° to the left for those bevel cuts. The maximum depth of cut at this angle is 2-3/16 inches. Once it’s back upright at 90 degrees the saw blade has a 3-1/8 inch maximum depth of cut.
It’s Built To Last For A Very Long Time
It weighs 380 pounds and is going to last you a very long time time, plus it’s full of cast iron features we’ve talked about before. The tabletop and trunnions are only two of the features making this a solid cabinet saw. You’ll get a 2-year warranty to make sure of this.
You’ll Get A Big 4″ Dust Port
Due to the power tool having a lower HP than other cabinet table saws, it’s not going to cut like a hot knife through butter. Luckily the big 4 inch dust port will deal with most of the mess and you’ll have easy access to the base where you can tidy everything up.

Key Features —
It Only Requires A 115V Power Outlet
One huge reason why this cabinet saw is so unique is because it only requires 115V of power to work. That won’t mean much to you unless you’re up-to-date with the best cabinet saws, but 99 percent of the time they require a 220V outlet which might need to be organized separately.
You’ll Get A Very Sturdy Miter Gauge
Most of the cuts on a cabinet table saw will be cross cuts, but eventually you’ll need the help of a good sturdy miter gauge. Luckily for you the Powermatic PM1000 has one. It has the ability to pivot 60 degrees in either direction and it’s easy to adjust.
The Cabinet Saw Runs On A 1.75HP Motor
This is another one of those cabinet saws with a slightly lower horsepower than you’d expect, but it has a few redeeming qualities. The poly-Y belt is special because it will increase the efficiency of the motor while reducing the vibration level at the same time.
Switches Off And On Without Your Hands
The power switch is one of these amazing inventions you’ll learn to appreciate the more you use your cabinet saw. You’ll be able to work a lot faster because you can switch it off and on without your hands. It’s got to do with the design and where it’s conveniently placed.
It Comes With An Exclusive AccuFence
With a maximum rip capacity of 30 inches it’s more than enough for most jobs you’ll need to carry out. This is only enhanced because of the exclusive AccuFence. It’s not going anywhere because it’s totally rigid and its precision gives you much better cuts.

The Ergonomically Designed Hand Wheels
Eventually you’ll need to do one of two things. Your blade will need to be raised, or it will need to be tilted to the side for bevel cuts. Maybe it will need to do both at the same time, so it’s a good thing you’ll have access to 7 inch ergonomically designed hand wheels.
A Conveniently Located Bevel Scale
We’ve talked about how you’ll be able to change the bevel angle without any difficulty, but it won’t count for anything if it’s not accurate. You’ll always be able to get it right when you use the Powermatic PM1000 because the scale is conveniently located on the base.
The Respectable Depth Of A Few Cuts
If the blade is sitting at 90 degrees you’ll end up with a 3-1/8 inch maximum depth of cut. Once it tilts down to 45 degrees it changes to a 2-1/8 inch maximum depth of cut. The maximum diameter of a dado cut is 8 inches and the max width of a dado cut is 13/16 inches.

Key Features —
A Quick And Easy Push Button Arbor Lock
One thing you’ll eventually need to do is switch out blades, which can usually be troublesome if you don’t have a good cabinet saw. It will be quick and easy on the Delta 36-L352 Type 2 because you’ll only need to push a button, which also happens to be conveniently located.
Cuts Probably Couldn’t Be More Accurate
This has to be the best cabinet saw in the world if you’re looking for accuracy. It boils down to the fact it uses a BIESEMEYER fence. You might not have a clue why it’s so good, but it’s accurate down to 1/64 inches which is almost impossible to beat.
It Has A Very Large Maximum Rip Capacity
The maximum rip capacity on the Delta 36-L352 cabinet table saw won’t take your breath away, but at 52 inches it’s still a few inches bigger than all but some similar models available. The maximum rip capacity to the left of the blade is 13.5 inches.
The Bevel Gauge Can Be Largely Trusted
You’re not going to get any more accurate than the fence, but Delta shows once again they are big on accuracy. The crank on the unit will let you tilt the blade effortlessly, but it’s the fact you can trust the gauge to within a 1/4 inch that will please you the most.
You’ll Get A Very Smooth Tabletop
By now you’ve worked out a large tabletop gives you more room to work and bigger workpieces to play with. We’ve not delved much into the smoothness of the tabletops. This one is so smooth it helps you push the wood through the blade without putting in any effort.
Riving Knife Will Rise/Fall With Blade
You know the riving knife will help with kickbacks and they’re essential if your are not cutting the wood all the way through. You’ll love the fact the riving blade will rise and fall automatically when you’re moving it up and down, so it saves you lots of additional manual work.

A Large Multi-Directional On/Off Switch
It’s not often you see new features, but they’re almost always a pleasant surprise. They’re especially beneficial when they have anything to do with safety. The on/off switch on the Delta 36-L352 isn’t just easy to reach, but will be activated when touched from any angle.
It Has A Single-Cast Trunnion System
The single-cast trunnion system gives you a little more than you’ll get from others on the list. It really tries to do only two crucial things. Obviously you’ll want to lower the vibration to smooth everything out, but it also gives you constant blade accuracy you can depend on.

Key Features —
It Has A SawStop Patented Safety System
It’s surprising none of the other best cabinet saws on the market offer this feature, although it’s patented so it would need to work in a different way. The saw can detect when a finger touches the blade and everything comes to a standstill within milliseconds.
Will Collect 99% Of Excess Dust
Although the 99% claim might be a touch generous, SawStop have put a couple of things in place to collect it all. It uses a dust collection blade guard on top of the tabletop and has a system to deliver dust to the 4 inch port below it.

Easier To Deal With Non-Through Cuts
You’ll have seen riving knifes mentioned a few times now and we’ve talked about their effectiveness against kickbacks. This will be the last time we mention them, so we’ll look at the last thing it’s good for. If you’re not cutting the wood all the way through you’ll need it.
You’ll Only Require 115V To Operate It
It’s another one of those strange cabinet saws where it will work on a 115V outlet. Maybe this is because the motor is only 1.75HP, which makes it lower than average for the particular type of table saw. It is still configurable to 220V if it’s what you need.

Compatible With More Than One Blade Size
The SawStop PCS175-PFA30 will use a standard 10 inch blade like all the top cabinet table saws we’ve looked at today. The only difference is it’s also compatible with 8 inch dado blades. This will give you maximum versatility in case you ever need it.
The Rip Capacity And Depth Of Cuts
On the right of the blade you’ll have access to a rip capacity of 30 inches. At only 12 inches the rip capacity is shorter to the left of the blade. When it’s at 90 degrees the depth of cut is 3-1/8 inches, whereas the depth of cut is only 2-1/4 inches at 45 degrees.

A Large Premium 30″ Fence System
One of the downsides to the 1.75 horsepower motor is the effect it will have on the finished product. It’s why all other features should be a cut above the rest. This 30 inch premium fence system will give you the straightest and most accurate cuts possible.
It Has A Worksite Cart And Mobile Base
*Sold separately : SawStop MB-PCS-000 or SawStop MB-PCS-IND
The entire unit weighs 425 pounds, so you would expect once it’s in position you wouldn’t be able to shift it anywhere. That isn’t necessarily true if you have the right additional equipment. A worksite cart or mobile base will offer you lots of extra mobility.

Key Features —
Driven By A Three Horsepower Motor
The Grizzly G0690 cabinet saw is driven by a single phase 220V 3HP motor giving you unbelievable power. The arbor is driven by three belts and can spin the 10 inch blade at speeds of up to 4,300 RPM to ensure it will be able to cut through anything you throw at it.
You’ll Get A Large Maximum Depth Of Cut
Your cabinet table saw blade will tilt to the left 45 degrees, so you’ll have a couple of different cut depths available. When it’s at 90 degrees the maximum depth of cut is 3-1/8 inches. Once it’s dropped to 45 degrees the depth of cut drops to 2-3/16 inches.
It Comes With A Solid Riving Blade
When you’re cutting anything your safety is of the utmost importance, which is why Grizzly have included a riving blade to sit behind the main blade. This will stop any kickbacks from hurting you, especially when you’re making cuts without the saw blade guard.
Blade Guard Is Completely Transparent
You need a blade guard to protect yourself, but at the same time it’s always nice to see what you’re doing. The blade guard on the Grizzly G0690 is 100 percent transparent, so it will let you do your job with precision without getting in the way.
Full Of Heavy-Duty Cast Iron Components
It probably won’t surprise you considering the cabinet saw itself weighs around 530 pounds, but lots of the main components are made from heavy-duty cast iron. These include, but are not limited to, the trunnions, miter gauge T-slot, and the 62 x 41 tabletop.
Long Camlock T-Fence With A HDPE Face
The fences on cabinet saws are one of the most important parts on the entire machine. The T-fence on the Grizzly G0690 runs up the entire length of the unit. It glides easily and locks into position, plus it will guarantee you can make smooth cuts extremely quickly.

Raising The Blade Up And Tilting It
If you want to raise the blade up and down there is a hand wheel on the front of the cabinet saw, plus there is one on the side to tilt the blade. There is an angle gauge on the front to make sure it’s correct. Each of these can be locked into position within seconds.
Rip Capacity To The Left And Right
The width of the table is 41 inches, but that doesn’t tell you anything about the maximum rip capacity on either side of the blade. The max rip capacity on the right of the blade is 29 inches, whereas it’s only 12 inches on the left of the blade to help keep it compact.
