What’s the best kids wagon? Well, in this article I will show you two nostalgic wagons that your child will love.
Before we get to the reviews of the Radio Flyer All-Terrain Cargo Wagon and the Radio Flyer All-Terrain Steel & Wood Wagon, I want to touch upon the history of the Radio Flyer brand. It’s an iconic company that stirs nostalgia in the hearts and minds of many Americans. Radio Flyer knows how to make the best kids wagon and they’ve been doing so for year.Radio Flyer began in the 1920’s when Antonio Pasin, a 16 year old skilled craftsman, made his way to Chicago after his family sold their mule to pay for his journey to the USA. After struggling to find work as a cabinet-maker he settled for a menial job and by 1917 he saved enough money to buy used equipment for what would become the humble beginnings of Radio Flyer.
Things really started to take off when he rented a small workshop and began working on designing and building his own wagons at night and then spending his days selling them to shops in the area. His small company steadily grew, and in 1923 he officially named his company the “Liberty Coaster Company,” named in honor of the Statue of Liberty and also based on his very popular ‘Liberty Coaster’ wagon, which was made entirely of wood.
At some point Antonio Pasin got a large order for 7,000 wagons which provided him with enough capital to open a factory in Chicago. The automotive industry was booming at the time so he decided to borrow techniques from the manufacturing of cars which led to the design of his first all-steel wagon that he called the “Radio Flyer.”
His inspiration for the name came from two sources: First, the new invention at that moment in history was radio so he took that idea and combined it with another new industry — the newly introduced industry of air travel, and thus the name “Radio Flyer” was born. Who knows what he would have named the company had he started it in the 21st century.
The steel wagon came in many different colors but red was always the most popular, and over time it became the iconic color of the Red Flyer brand. You can read more about their history via these links: Backstory: Radio Flyer. And on the Radio Flyer site.

Red Flyer All Terrain Steel & Wood Wagon | Best Kids Wagon
The Red Flyer All Terrain Steel & Wood Wagon is very similar to Radio Flyer All-Terrain Cargo Wagon so I’m not going to repeat myself. The differences are mainly cosmetic and this model is a little smaller as well. But the main reason I don’t want to write a detailed write-up is because some customers are bringing up some important issues with this particular wagon.
Either way, this is an excellent wagon and one of the most unique and nostalgic kids wagon on the market. Personal style is an important factor when it comes to buying a toy wagon. As you know, we all have different taste. A child may gravitate naturally toward one particular style over another, but at the end of the day kids are not as analytical as adults. Let’s face it, kids just want to play. They don’t get bogged down in the details.
Your child will have endless hours of fun in this wagon, and don’t forget the memories that they’ll remember for a lifetime.
