The Peg Perego John Deere Gator XUV is the epitome of cool. Peg Perego is a well-known Italian company that understands what children love — and in this case, it’s a very impressive ride on vehicle based on the real-life John Deere Gator. Personally, I think it looks better than the actual real-world model. No offense John Deere.
There’s nothing more fun for a child then being able to jump into his or her personal Peg Perego John Deere Gator and ride around the yard on a warm summer day. These are the moments that childhood are built around. This Peg Perego ride on toy will give your child a feeling of freedom like he’s never felt before.
Overall this is a well made product that your child will probably get addicted to. I’m a big fan of Peg Perego and I’ve already written a couple articles on some of their other ride on vehicles which you might also be interested in:
I’d say the biggest design concern would be the all-plastic wheels, which are also hollow. It would of been nice if the designers put a little rubber on the wheels and perhaps made them a little heavier for improved traction. I know that some customers complain about the wheels but it really depends on how you use the vehicle.

For example, the tires will wear quicker if you children are continually driving the Peg Perego John Deere Gator XUV on concrete but if they’re driving it around on grass most of the time then the wheels should last a very long time. If the wheels were much heavier then battery life would suffer as a result. You see, there are tradeoffs for every design decision made. You get a lot of toy for the money you pay.
If your child is small then you probably want to put a little extra weight in the dumping-bed to help give the Gator XUV better traction. Try adding a few bricks or a bag of dirt or something similar. The added weight will help provide a little more stability and increase traction. It’s not necessary but it’s something to consider depending on the size of your child. It’s important to know that this isn’t an FJ Cruiser or a Jeep Wrangler so don’t expect your child to traverse through the jungle with this Peg Perego John Deere Gator but I promise you that your child will have a whole lot of fun.
Years of Fun with the Peg Perego John Deere Gator XUV
Let’s not forget what made us happy when were kids. We didn’t sit and analyze our toys and see the imperfections. All that mattered was the experience that we had. Our fondest memories our of the times when we just had time to play and be free. My point is that the things that may bother you won’t affect your child in the least — unless you harp on it around them. Trust me, you’re kids don’t give a damn about the little things that adults tend to get hung up on.
The Peg Perego John Deere Gator is an excellent toy that your child will adore and will remember as they grow older. Sure, it’s not perfect but nothing is perfect in life. I would have been ecstatic if my parents bought this for me when I was a child and I’m sure you’d feel the same way. I created a special section on this site entitled Outdoor Kids to highlight toys that encourage kids to go outside and move. I truly think it matters that parents try to inspire their kids to explore the outdoors — as I wish my parents had done.
The toys of our youth shape us in ways that we’re not conscious of. At the end of the day, the best toys encourage children to develop their motor skills, hand-eye coordination, while simultaneously providing them with a lot of fun.
I recommend that you buy the Peg Perego 12V Quick Charger because it allows you to recharge the batteries in under 2 hours — which is a lot quicker than the regular charger which takes up to 12 hours to charge the battery. Your kids won’t be too happy if the battery dies in the middle of their fun afternoon so if you have the money in your budget then you might want to also consider buying an extra 12V battery to avoid downtime. I know, it’s expensive. Again, it all depend on your budget. Don’t spend more than you can afford, I’m just providing you with your available options.
Unfortunately, the instructions to assemble the Peg Perego John Deere Gator aren’t’ the best instructions you’ve ever had to follow. You’ll probably be a little frustrated putting it together because they mainly use photos to show you how to put it together. If you have some patience and look closely at the instruction then I’m sure you’ll be able to put this fun toy together in a reasonable amount of time.
Thankfully, you only have to assemble it once. It’s no more difficult than putting together IKEA furniture so I wouldn’t let this get in the way of providing your child endless hours of fun.

The Peg Perego John Deere Gator Fresh Out of the Box
This toy ride on vehicle has two forward speeds: 2.5 mph and 4.5 mph and one reverse gear. Also, for added safety Peg Perego has a lockout feature that can prevent your child from using the faster speed (4.5 mph). It’s a nice option to have if you have a younger child and you don’t want him or her to drive beyond their abilities.
The seat is also adjustable so your child can grow with this toy. The maximum weight that it can handle is 130 lbs in total. I think that’s an impressive carrying capacity for a battery powered ride on tractor.
