I’m so jealous of kids today. I grew up in the wrong era. Honestly, this John Deere Ground Force Peg Perego Tractor (and trailer) is unbelievable. If my parents gave me this when I was a kid I would’ve been on cloud nine. The moment I saw the image you see above I knew I had to write a post about it and include it in my Outdoor Kids section of Chainsaw Journal.

This kids toy tractor was designed for children between the ages of 3 and 7. It can safely carry up to 85 lbs; more than enough carrying capacity for a young one plus some cargo in the trailer. If you haven’t figured it out yet this runs on a 12 volt rechargeable battery so it’s a real driving tractor for kids. It’s not one of the cheap pedal toy tractors you can buy. This is the real deal!\

This John Deere Ground Force Tractor is made of the highest quality materials by a company called Peg Perego. I had never heard of them prior to seeing this toy tractor but after doing some research, I must say I’m impressed. Peg Perego is an Italian manufacturer that’s been around since 1949. So have confidence in the quality of this Ground Force tractor for your child. They’ve been in business for quite some time which means they’re doing something right.

Although Peg Perego is based in Italy, they have offices in Brazil, Canada and the United States. And this Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor is actually made in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Yup, it’s American made. Pretty cool in this day and age when everything is made in China.

The John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer has been designed with safety in mind. It has something they call “SmartPedal” technology which reduces jerky starts and stops while increasing battery efficiency. It has three operating positions: run, coast and automatic brakes — which means this toy tractor automatically stops as soon as your child removes his foot from the accelerator pedal. You’ll also be happy to know that it also has a high-speed lockout option for increased safety.

It comes with farm tractor wheels which provide exceptional traction on grass, dirt, gravel, concrete and even in snow. Yes, how fun would that be to drive this Peg Perego toy tractor through the yard after a snowfall. The short answer: Very fun!

Have I mentioned that it has an FM radio with an automatic tuner? Well, it does. I had to wait until I was sixteen to have a vehicle with four wheels and it had an 8-track. Honestly, I’d rather have this Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer than the brown 1972 mustang I bought as my first car. But I digress. My apologies.

This has two speeds: 2¼ or 4½ mph, which is a nice option to have and as I stated earlier, you can lock-out the higher speed of 4½ mph so it’s not available to your child. A nice touch for your peace of mind. And, on top of that it also has reverse. Not only is this John Deere toy tractor fun but it’s also great early training for driving a car.

There are few things more annoying than having batteries die on you when you’re in the middle of something important, or for kids, when you’re in the middle of having fun. Either way, it’s something you should consider to extend the joy your child is bound to have in his or her toy tractor.

I can guarantee one thing and that is, your child will become extremely popular with the neighborhood kids and all of his friends will be envious. I should add that this is suitable for boys or girls. I certainly don’t feel it’s a boys toy in any way. Kids love to get outside and interact with the environment and this is a great way to do so.

Just the idea of contributing and being a part of any yard work around the home will encourage healthy behavior and will get your kids involved with chores at an early age; allowing them to have fun every step of the way. I wish I had such an upbringing.
