Update: The Snapper 922EXC is discontinued but the equivalent model is the : Briggs & Stratton 1696506
Every once in a while a product comes along that’s so impressive it makes you want to tell everyone about it. I’m sure you’ve been in that situation before. Well, today I am going to introduce you to the Snapper 922EXD — a single stage snow blower that will knock your socks off with its innovative design.
Streamlined for the 21st century, this snow blower is extremely nimble, mobile while packing enough power and functionality to clear as much snow as a two stage snow blower.
*Note: The Snapper 922EXD has been discontinued but you can purchase the equivalent model: Briggs & Stratton 1696506. It’s exactly the same snow blower, just a different brand.
Also, I recommend browsing our Briggs and Stratton Snow Blower buying guide if you want to learn more. We will tidy up this article in the near future. Sorry, it’s a little messy right now since the Snapper model seemed to disappear shortly after it was released.
I recommend reading our current picks for snow blowers by reading these two buying guides which are current and up-to-date:
If you check the Snapper website you’ll notice that they no longer carry snow blowers. I’d love to know why.

Snapper 922EXD | Evolutionary Snow Blower
This new ergonomic design will chop, grind and throw any type of snow or ice you throw at it, while greatly reducing the amount of time it takes to clear any given area.
It’s powered by a high-quality Briggs and Stratton 4-Cycle, OHV 205cc engine, with an auger speed of 1250 nominal and 9 foot-pounds of torque. One common thread throughout this machine is simple — efficiency. Clearly, the 922EXD has been engineered for optimal efficiency. You’ll immediately see this in action because its snow clearing capacity is around 30% more than current Briggs & Stratton single stage snow blowers.

Lightweight & Powerful Snow Blower | Snapper 922EXD
Made for optimal mobility at only 93 lbs. Yes, that’s actually light for a heavy-duty snow blower. The auger assisted drive will make you feel much stronger than you actually are as you navigate your driveway and sidewalk through the deep Winter snow.
With a 22″ clearing width and a 12.5″ intake height you’ll have no problem clearing snow after a heavy snowfall or even after a blizzard. Let’s just say that your neighbors will likely be jealous of you — and they might even ask you to clear their driveway and sidewalk. You might inadvertently become really popular in your neighborhood if you decide to take the plunge and purchase one.
Get Prepared Long Before the Snow Arrives
I find it odd that many people are unprepared when snow falls in their city or town. If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow every year, such as Buffalo, then there’s no reason not to be ready when snow falls. Not everyone needs a snow blower but if you own property in an area that consistently gets a lot of snow then a snow blower should be considered an investment over the long-term.
A snow shovel isn’t the best tool for clearing deep snow and it won’t dig you out of a blizzard either.
I don’t know if you’ve ever been unable to leave your home due to snow, but I have and it wasn’t fun. The roads were fine but I couldn’t get out of my driveway and I had to take the bus to work for several days while waiting for the snow to melt. The point is, don’t wait for the snow to fall before preparing for the worst. Think ahead and decide what you need. You may only need a snow shovel but make sure you have one before the snow starts falling. because if you wait for the big Winter storm to hit your city it’s too late.
Everyone panics and runs to the store at the last minute. Don’t be one of those people. Plan ahead.
Most people buy a snow blower to clear snow around the home after a snowfall. It’s quite simple. There’s no other reason to buy a snow thrower other than to clear snow. And what does the Snapper 922EXD excel at? clearing all types of snow (and ice) quickly, efficiently and easily — while leaving the pavement behind you bare and clean. The 922EXD is the best all around homeowner snow blower currently on the market. If you know of a better one please let me know.
You know that a product is good when Popular Science includes it as a feature product in their magazine. Yup, it’s in the January 2015 issue of Popular Science (page 23). I know because I have a copy.
If you need a more powerful snow blower, for whatever reason then look into purchasing a two stage snow blower for greater snow clearing capacity, but for the average homeowner the Snapper 922EXD will be just fine. Actually, more than fine. It’s the ideal snow thrower.
How does the Snapper 922EXD clear snow so easily?
The patent pending Briggs & Stratton Serrated Auger, called the SnowShredder, has been engineered with 14-welded, serrated steel surfaces to break up tough compacted snow, coupled with a wear-resistant rubber edged paddles to solve the problem of cleaning straight down to the pavement — and that includes ice and the always difficult to remove; compacted end-of-the-driveway snow that snowplows leave behind in front of your home.
It has the perfect balance of power and maneuverability thanks to the self-propelled auger drive system with serrated blades. It truly is an ingenious invention that you’ll truly appreciate from the moment you begin using it.
This new SnowShredder auger is made by Briggs & Stratton and has been licensed out to two snowblower companies — Snapper and Simplicity. Briggs & Stratton also has their own version of the snow thrower on the market. All three snow blowers are identical in design. The main difference is the branding.
the Simplicity 922EXD and the Simplicity 1222EE are both discontinued for some reason, but they were identical to the Snapper 922EXD and the Snapper 1222EE (currently unavailable). Not to to make this any more confusing but Briggs and Stratton has their own branded version of one of these models: Briggs and Stratton 922EXD. But, as you can see in the image below, they’re basically the same snow blower; except for the color scheme, logo and possibly other minor parts. This is a common practice with retail products.
Not long ago you were able to see a side-by-side comparison of the Snapper 922EXD vs the Snapper 1222EE but they have since take that information down. Again, to reiterate, the Snapper, Briggs & Stratton and Simplicity models are identical. The differences are primarily cosmetic.
For some reason the Snapper 1222EE seems to be unavailable everywhere and some sites even state that it’s discontinued.
Their press release may help clear things up if you’re at all confused: Briggs & Stratton Reveals Breakthrough SnowShredder Serrated Auger on Single-Stage Snowblowers.
I think these manufacturers underestimated the market with these snow throwers because there seems to be a slight shortage of some of these models at the moment. You should know that this is a brand new product. It launched in the past couple months. They announced it in November of 2014. I think consumers have been hungering for a versatile snow blower that’s compact, efficient, lightweight and powerful – this model seems to have hit the sweet spot.
In the past — as in, two months ago — you’d have to buy a two stage snow blower to get all the features included in the 922EXD — but 2-stage blowers are definitely not lightweight. This really is a revolutionary snow blower that will likely continue to grow in popularity in the foreseeable future. That’s my prediction anyway. Time will tell.
As I stated earlier, the Simplicity versions of the 922EXD and the 1222EE are discontinued.
Watch the 922EXD in action:
Backed by the Briggs & Stratton Snow Engine Starting Promise — if your Snapper 922EXD doesn’t start on either of the first two electrical start attempts then Briggs & Stratton will fix it for free. No cost to you. They guarantee it will start all the way down to -20 degrees °F ( -29 °C).
What a fantastic guarantee. That should ease your mind if you’re at all concerned about your snow thrower not starting when the temperature drops dramatically. I’m always encouraged when manufacturers stand behind their products.
I wonder why the Snapper 922EXD snow blower was laid to rest so soon after being released? It’s too bad but my guess is there were larger business decisions at play with this particular model. If anyone knows the answer, please let us know.

Should you buy the Snapper 922EXD Snow Thrower?
Hmm. Well, do you live New York, Colorado, Minnesota or any other state or city that gets a lot of snowfall? Do you need to clear large amounts of snow throughout Winter? Does the thought of being snowed in bother you?
I genuinely feel that the Snapper 922EXD combines all the best elements of a snow blower into a well-engineered machine capable of clearing large amounts of snow and ice, in a lightweight and easy-to-use package for homeowners. The genius of this Snapper snow blower lies in the design of the Briggs & Stratton SnowShredder auger. It’s not just another single stage snow blower; it really is an evolutionary leap in technology that will make a big difference when it comes time to get to work and clear that pesky snow.
Why struggle with heaps of heavy snow when you don’t have to. With the 922EXD you no longer have to stress out about the thick snow left by city snowplows at the end of your driveway. You no longer have to wrestle with your snow blower because it’s too heavy to maneuver. You can save yourself a lot of money if you buy the Snapper 922EXD over a 2-stage snow blower. The beauty of this snow thrower is that it just works the way you expect it to; so you can spend less time clearing snow and more time getting on with the important things in your life.
